At FBC Jones, we’re a Gospel-centered, relationship-driven church that exists to EXALT the Lord, EQUIP believers, & ENGAGE the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
We value growing our faith among family. We are a welcoming and open church that encourages people to come and share in the love of Jesus. Come join our community and grow in your faith alongside others who have the same beliefs and values.
We understand that trying something new can feel a bit intimidating, especially when you're unsure about the details that matter most to you. To help, we've answered some common questions about FBC Jones to give you a glimpse of what to expect each week and address what’s important to you.
FBC Jones wants to be a comfortable place for those who are curious about God but have never felt comfortable in church.
We want FBC Jones to be a place where you can learn, apply, and wrestle with who God is and what He wants for you. It’s okay if you don’t have it all figured out yet.
At FBC Jones, you’re welcome to wear whatever you’d like. Some wear ties others wear tattoos and we like it that way. There is no set dress code, although the attire is more on the casual side.
FBC Jones is a family-friendly environment. We believe that children are a blessing from God! We will provide a clean and safe environment for your children. Each adult worker is required to have a background check and go through our church volunteer training.
Once you walk through the glass doors of our church on the west side of the building off 3rd Street, there will be greeters to help show you where to go and answer any questions you might have. We can’t wait for you to visit us!
Our services typically run for about 75-90 minutes. On any given Sunday we sing, preach, baptize, take communion, & provide ways for you to grow and take the next step.
Singing
During the gathering, our worship team will lead us in a number of songs. FBC Jones strives to balance new, original music with some of the great hymns of our faith. Song lyrics are available in hymnals for most songs for those who cannot read the screen from their seat or would prefer to hold a book.
As we sing, our focus is not ourselves or the people around us, but telling the risen Jesus how much we love Him. So, no matter what kind of voice you have, sing out with all of your heart!
After the music portion of service is complete, one of our pastors will come out to share a Gospel-centered, encouraging, and hope-filled message about Jesus.
Teaching
At FBC Jones, our pastor practices expository, verse-by-verse preaching so that when you leave a sermon you know what God’s word means and how you can live it out.
We believe that the Bible is God’s gift to us to show us who He is and what He’s done for us. We teach straight from the Bible in a way that is helpful and challenging.
If you don’t have a copy of the Bible with you, we will encourage you to listen closely. If you don’t own your own Bible, please take one of ours home as our gift to you.
Prayer
One of the greatest privileges we have as followers of Jesus is being able to pray with boldness and confidence. We’ll pray together throughout our time.
And, if you would like to have someone pray for you, any pastor or deacon would be honored to pray with you after the worship gathering. You’ll find them up at the door as you exit--waiting to serve you!
Communion
Communion is something that Jesus began the night before he died as a way for his followers to remember and participate in his death on the cross.
At FBC Jones, we celebrate communion together once a month on the 2nd Sunday. FBC Jones welcomes all Christians who have repented of their sin and believed the Gospel, been baptized, and are members in good standing at their local church.
Giving
If you are our guest, please do not feel obligated to give anything financially. Please feel free to give as God leads you in the giving box by the sound booth at the main entrance before or after the service.
What you’ll encounter when you attend FBC Jones is a diverse biblical community where people seek to know and love God, live in community with others, and transform the world by serving our town as we think Jesus would.
Practically speaking, this means some of us are just checking out Christianity for the first time, while others have been in church their whole lives.
FBC Jones members span all different ethnicities, ages, jobs, and backgrounds.
Everyone is welcome--anytime!
Please do. We seek to be a welcoming environment for people who are curious about Christianity or who are seeking to belong to a community of believers.
Values consist of principles we believe and follow as Christians. Here are some we emphasize at FBC Jones.
We value the Scriptures as the objective Word of God and the standard for church and personal life, guiding our purpose, teaching, and direction (2 Timothy 3:16-17). In a world influenced by society’s push to elevate human creation over the Creator, we seek a renewal of biblical truth in every area of life (Romans 1:25).
We rely on the Holy Spirit to guide our church decisions (John 16:13). We seek His leading through prayer and spiritual gifts (Romans 8:26-27). We avoid relying on human strategies (Proverbs 3:5-6). The Spirit’s guidance will always align with Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16).
To live a gospel-centered life means that the gospel shapes our understanding of who God is and how we approach every situation in life (Galatians 2:20).
Marriages need encouragement, children need nurture, and families need unity, so we emphasize the importance of spending quality and meaningful time together.
FBC Jones values excellence while keeping our ministry simple (1 Corinthians 14:40). Rather than focusing on numerous programs, we aim to foster a church culture of evangelism, discipleship, hospitality, and fellowship, allowing ministry to grow naturally with minimal programming (Acts 2:42-47).
We value loving and trusting relationships, often formed through small groups (Hebrews 10:24-25). FBC Jones offers a variety of small groups throughout the week, each focused on Bible study, worship, fellowship, or a combination of these to honor God, foster growth, and deepen relationships (Acts 2:42).
We want to be a church where it can be said: "They are all about Jesus. It's all about Jesus (Colossians 1:18). Sin is not safe there, but sinners are (Matthew 9:13).” We hope to see a church growing in the gospel and bringing it to the community (Romans 1:16). All are welcome here (Matthew 11:28).
Jesus did only what the Father showed Him (John 5:19). He didn’t seek His own gain or influence (Philippians 2:6-7). He simply pleased God (John 8:29). We are called to do the same, acting with sincerity, respect, and a desire to honor God (Colossians 3:23).
We value unity because it reflects the nature of God, who is united as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Unity is where God blesses, and when we unite in spirit and purpose, He fulfills His will. Jesus said, “A house divided cannot stand” (Matthew 12:25). A unified church can accomplish anything! Therefore, we aim to protect the church's unity by honoring others, submitting to leaders, and resolving conflicts gently and timely.
Like individual believers, each church God establishes has its own unique personality. We have listed below, in random order, some of the convictions that make up FBC Jones.
We recognize there are true churches that differ from us on some or perhaps many of these issues, though certain aspects ought to be part of any church.
We are hopeful of receiving into our church those who will help us reflect these characteristics.
Proclaiming the authority of God’s Word without apology. (2 Timothy 4:1-5; Hebrews 4:12).
Worshipping God in both spirit and truth (Mark 12:30; John 4:23-24; John 12:32).
Believing firmly in the power of prayer according to the will of God (Luke 22:42; Ephesians 6:18; James 5:16; 1 John 5:14).
Making disciples who make disciples (Matthew 28:16-20; 2 Timothy 2:2).
Sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with boldness (Matthew 9:36-38; Acts 1:8; Romans 1:16; Ephesians 6:19-20).
Giving generously because of God’s generous grace towards us (Matthew 6:21; 2 Corinthians 8:9; 2 Corinthians 9:6-7).
Serving with our spiritual gifts to build up the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12; 1 Thessalonians 5:11; Hebrews 10:24; 1 Peter 4:7-11).
Sending resources and biblically-qualified leaders to plant new churches and help revitalize established ones (Acts 13:2; Titus 1:5).
Celebrating God’s design for marriage, gender, and the family (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 127:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:3; Ephesians 5:22-33, 6:1-3).
Protecting the flock from spiritual threats and wolves (Matthew 24:4-5; Acts 20:28-32; Galatians 1:6-12; Colossians 2:4; 2 Peter 2:1-22).
We are a thoroughly Bible-believing, evangelical church that supports missions through The Southern Baptist Convention and The Cooperative Program.
We are in agreement with the following:
All things exist for the glory of God (Psalm 148; Proverbs 16:4; Isaiah 61:3; Romans 11:33-36; 1 Corinthians 10:31; 2 Corinthians 5:15; Ephesians 1:3-14).
We believe the Scriptures are inspired by God and without error in the original writing (2 Timothy 3:16). The 66 books of the Old and New Testaments are God's complete and sufficient revelation for mankind (Hebrews 1:1-2). The Bible is the final authority on truth, morality, and how we should live (Psalm 119:160). It is the only source of what we believe (John 17:17).
We believe in the only true God (John 17:3), the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19-20). He created everything (Revelation 4:11) and sustains all things by His power (Hebrews 1:3). In Him we live, move, and exist (Acts 17:28). He is a God of truth, just and right (Deuteronomy 32:4), and will judge the world (Psalm 9:8).
We believe the Godhead exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are one God, sharing the same nature, attributes, and perfection, and deserve the same honor, trust, and obedience (Mark 12:29; John 1:1-4; Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 5:3-4).
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, was born of a virgin and is both fully God and fully human (Matthew 1:20; Luke 2:52; John 1:1-4, 14; Colossians 1:15-20; Hebrews 1:1-3).
Jesus Christ died as the sacrificial substitute to pay the penalty for sin (John 1:29; 10:1-18; Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Galatians 1:4; 1 Peter 3:18).
Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and will one day physically return (Matthew 28:1-20; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 24:1-53; John 1:20-21:25; 1 Corinthians 15:12-34; John 14:3; Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Hebrews 9:28; 1 John 3:2; Revelation 1:7).
We believe the Holy Spirit’s ministry is to glorify Jesus Christ (John 16:8; John 13:15). He convicts us of sin and regenerates the sinner when they believe in Christ, baptizing them into the body of Christ (Titus 3:5; Ephesians 1:22). He indwells, guides, instructs, fills, comforts, and empowers the believer for godly living and service, giving spiritual gifts for each individual (Romans 8:9-17; 12:4-8).
FBC Jones does not encourage the ‘sign gifts’ as a normal pattern for believers, nor do we teach that any gift, including tongues, is required for salvation.
We believe the Holy Spirit sovereignly gives His gifts to perfect the saints today. The sign gifts, such as tongues and miracles, were for the early church to authenticate the apostles as divine truth-revealers and were not meant to be characteristic of all believers (Ephesians 4:11-12; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Galatians 5:25; Hebrews 4:1-4). We emphasize love and the more edifying gifts (1 Corinthians 12:19; 2 Corinthians 12:12).
We believe man was created innocent, under the law of his Maker, but through voluntary disobedience fell from his sinless and happy state. As a result, all mankind are sinners, not only by constraint but by choice, and are under just condemnation without excuse (Genesis 3:1-6; Romans 3:10-19; Romans 1:18, 32).
We believe that every person is totally depraved and in need of a Savior (Genesis 6:5; Psalm 51:5; Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:23; 5:8, 12-21; 7:18; Ephesians 2:1-3).
We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice. Those who receive Him by faith as their personal Savior are justified by His blood shed on Calvary. They are born again by the Holy Spirit and become eternally secure as children of God. The Holy Spirit baptizes believers into the body of Christ at the moment of salvation (Romans 8:37-39; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Corinthians 12:13).
Only through faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ and repentance from sin can one be reconciled to God and experience true life and joy (John 3:18, 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:21-26; 1 Timothy 2:5-6). In short, we are saved by faith alone by God’s grace alone in Jesus alone as shown in the Scripture alone for God’s glory alone (The 5 Solas of the Reformation).
We believe in the "blessed hope": the personal, visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ. His return impacts the personal life and service of the believer (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).
We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost. The saved are raised to eternal, conscious bliss in heaven forever (Matthew 25:34; John 14:2; 2 Corinthians 5:1; Revelation 2:7).
The lost are raised to eternal torment in hell, separated from God for any other escape but under his wrath and presence in hell forever (Matthew 8:11; Matthew 10:28; Matthew 13:49-50; Mark 9:47-48; Luke 12:5, 16:19-31; Revelation 21:8).
We believe in the literal, bodily resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord Jesus Christ, His ascension into heaven, and His present life for us as High Priest and Advocate (Acts 1:3, 9; Hebrews 7:25, 26).
The Bible teaches that all believers are saints, set apart unto God, and are responsible to live in a way that does not bring reproach upon their Savior (Romans 2:1-2; 1 Peter 1:14-19; 2 Timothy 2:19; Titus 2). We must not cause the Word of God to be blasphemed (1 Timothy 6:1; Titus 2:5). As Christians, we should obey the Word of our Lord, seek things above, walk as He walked, and accept the responsibility and privilege of sharing the Gospel with a lost world (1 John 2:3; Colossians 3:1-2; Ephesians 5:23; Matthew 28:19-20).
A victorious and fruitful Christian life is possible only for those who present themselves wholly to Christ and walk by the power of the Holy Spirit, which all believers are called to do (Romans 12:1-2; Galatians 5:16; Ephesians 5:18; Romans 6, 7, 8:9-16).
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service." (Romans 12:1)
"Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh." (Galatians 5:16)
"Be not drunk with wine...but be filled with the Spirit." (Ephesians 5:18)
We believe all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of immeasurable worth in all its forms, including pre-born babies, the elderly, the physically or mentally challenged, and every stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are called to defend, protect, and value all human life (Psalm 139).
We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders reflect the image and nature of God (Genesis 1:26-27). Rejecting one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.
We believe the term "marriage" refers only to the union of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as described in Scripture (Genesis 2:18-25). We believe God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other (1 Corinthians 6:18; 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4). We believe God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.
We believe any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and pornography) is sinful and offensive to God (Matthew 15:18-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of FBC Jones as a local Body of Christ and provide a biblical role model to church members and the community, all employees and volunteers must agree to and abide by this Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality (Matthew 5:16; Philippians 2:14-16; 1 Thessalonians 5:22).
We believe God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ (Acts 3:19-21; Romans 10:9-10; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11).
We believe every person must be treated with compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31). Hateful or harassing behavior toward any individual is not in accord with Scripture or the doctrines of FBC Jones.
