Give as Jesus has Given
Giving is not a way to earn God’s grace or forgiveness, but rather it is response to the grace and forgiveness he has extended to us in the gospel. As God’s people grow in their understanding of this good news they are transformed into an open-handed community that gives freely of their resources. All donations that are received are used to further the mission of the church in our local community and around the world.
As you consider giving, here are some important scriptural commands for motives and attitudes in the area of giving.
- Giving is to be generous, not stingy (2 Corinthians 9:6).
- Giving is to be enthusiastic, not grudging (Acts 20:35).
- Giving is to be deliberate, not haphazard (2 Corinthians 9:7).
- Giving is to be discreet, not showy (Matthew 6:1-4).
- Giving is to be with faith, not anxiety (Matthew 6:31-34).
